¿Qué implica tener la certificación ECOCERT?

What does ECOCERT certification entail?

Posted by Ventas Biomille on

The ECOCERT certification guarantees that a cosmetic meets all sustainability requirements, from the production of its raw materials to the finished product when it reaches you.

There is a general consensus that natural cosmetics are any cosmetics that use raw materials of natural origin. But this definition is somewhat misleading because cosmetics have always used extracts from nature. In most cases, once these natural raw materials are ultra-processed, they result in a finished product that, only the word "natural" on the label remains. And all this if we refer only to the production process, ignoring the environmental impact that obtaining these natural ingredients often entails.

The key, therefore, to natural cosmetics is that they are made from 100% natural extracts, without additives or chemical transformations, and using only raw materials produced according to sustainable organic farming criteria . Then we could talk about natural and organic cosmetics. The only way to guarantee this is for the cosmetic product to have a seal like the COSMOS NATURAL from ECOCERT that we have at Natura Siberica , which certifies that all treatments are evaluated and certified as natural and organic, good for our skin and sustainable for the planet.

What is ECOCERT and what is COSMOS?

ECOCERT is an organization founded in France in 1991 with the aim of promoting sustainable agricultural practices. Its original mission, therefore, was to promote organic farming with a view to preserving biodiversity, mitigating climate change, respecting the environment, and ensuring the equitable distribution of resources. Seeking to promote these sustainable models, ECOCERT opted for certification, consulting, and training beyond agriculture, in all sectors linked to it: agri-food, household products, textiles, and cosmetics.

Present virtually worldwide, ECOCERT is responsible for 80% of all global organic certifications, redirecting the agricultural sector toward more environmentally responsible practices, in line with the demands of more responsible consumers. In cosmetics, and since its inception, ECOCERT has certified that products bearing its seal have a minimum threshold of 95% natural ingredients from organic farming, are free of preservatives, synthetic perfumes, and dyes, and are cruelty-free (not tested on animals).

COSMOS took as a reference the strict evaluation and certification approach of ECOCERT , which beyond the promotion of organic farming, emphasizes the sustainability of all processes, including production, formulation, packaging, distribution, and waste management, ensuring that the cosmetics we receive are good for our health and for the planet.

If it has the ECOCERT COSMOS label, it is natural or organic cosmetics.

The COSMOS label, according to the international ECOCERT standard, is therefore the true guarantee that a cosmetic is natural or organic. If a beauty product is labeled COSMOS NATURAL , it means that all the ingredients are of natural origin. If a product bears the COSMOS ORGANIC label , it means that 95% of the natural ingredients it contains are organic, and of these, at least 20% come from organic farming (10% in the case of products that must be rinsed off).

Now you know how important it is for a product to have this certification. And you, when buying a product, do you usually look at the packaging to see if it has any of these seals?
