No usamos parabenos ni SLS. Pero, ¿sabés qué son?

We don't use parabens or SLS. But do you know what they are?

The boom in natural cosmetics has put chemical ingredients, common in many beauty products, in the spotlight, including sulfates and parabens . More and more cosmetic brands are offering paraben- and sulfate-free hair products.

But do we know what they are used for and how we compensate for the fact that they are not in a product's formulation?

Sulfates

These are chemical elements added to shampoo due to their powerful cleansing properties. They're perfect for removing dirt with their particles and leaving our hair clean.

And where's the problem? It turns out these cleansing agents are so powerful that it's starting to be detected that they can cause irritation, especially if we wash our hair frequently. Furthermore, repeated use causes dryness, as it not only removes the layer of dirt but also strips away the natural oils our hair produces. Even experts from major brands recommend using them sparingly, avoiding excessive scrubbing.

If we want to identify them in a product, we should look for words like: Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Thriethanolamine Lauryl Sulfate or Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate.

Parabens

They are the preservatives in cosmetics. Thanks to them, products remain free of bacteria and living organisms. But every good thing has its downside.

According to the OCU (Organization of Consumers and Users), some are under suspicion because they can alter the body's hormonal balance. Some studies are beginning to link these imbalances to various diseases. As a precaution, those listed as butylparaben and propylparaben should be avoided.

And how do you solve the bacteria problem without them? There are alternatives with more natural products like essential oils.

Major beauty brands defend the use of these chemicals, but little by little, they are launching some alternatives that aim to appear more natural, as people are becoming aware of the effects of all the chemicals we use daily.

At Biomille, we believe in harnessing the natural properties of wild flowers and plants in our products to enhance the beneficial elements that nature offers us. By working on specific formulations, we aim to opt for these more natural alternatives, which are not only harmless but also beneficial and respectful of our bodies and the environment.
